GOLD HILL - Joe Ray Haynes, 76, of Gold Hill, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at his residence.

Joe was born in Stanly County, the son of the late Raymond R. "Rick" Haynes, Sr., and Molly Scott Haynes.

Educated in Rowan County schools, he retired from Rea Construction. Joe was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, where he played softball for the church team. He also coached girls softball.

Joe loved hunting, fishing, farming, working with his rabbit dogs, raising bobwhite and quail. Joe had been an avid worker for the Relay For Life Program.

Survivors include wife Audrey Hoffman Haynes, whom he married Aug. 1, 1953; son Joe Dean Haynes and wife Tammy of Gold Hill; daughters Barbara Jones and husband Paul Linn of Rockwell, Betty Jo Earnhardt and husband Doug of Gold Hill; brothers James Haynes of Coinjock and Bill Haynes of Rockwell; sisters Colleen Hoffner, Gaynell Shafer of Salisbury, Janice Lentz of Cleveland, Peggy Deal of Rockwell, Sandi Frick of Zebulon; six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery, Gold Hill, conducted by Rev. Dan Gobble, pastor of Providence United Methodist Church, Salisbury, and Rev. Brad Cunningham, pastor of Liberty United Methodist Church, Gold Hill.

Visitation will follow the Graveside service.

Memorials: Alzheimer’s Association, Western Chapter, or Rowan Regional Hospice.
