Correction

SALISBURY - William Thomas Blalock, 87, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. He was employed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Mr. Blalock was survived by brother, Calvin Blalock and wife Dot, of Shelby, who were omitted in an earlier obituary.

SALISBURY - William Thomas Blalock, 87, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 21, 1921 in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Walter Black Blalock and Esther Mae Kirk Blalock.

Mr. Blalock was a veteran of the United States Army, he was an Ex POW of WWII. He was Chapter Commander of Hampton Roads POW chapter.

In addition to working at the Norfolk Navel Shipyard as an electrician, he worked with Virginia Power for 21 years.

He was a member of Cradock United Methodist Church in Portsmouth, Va. for 48 years. Most recently he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Salisbury, but spent his early years at Randall's United Methodist Church in Norwood.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Orville and Billy Blalock; and sister, Lillie Mae Eudy.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia Estelle Poplin Blalock of the home; sons, Barry Blalock of Salisbury and Thomas Warren Blalock and wife Lisa of Savannah, Ga.; grandchildren, J.T. Blalock and Emily Blalock-Karel; great-grandchild, Malina Karel; sister, Mary Lilly of Norwood; sister-in-law, Martha Russell of Albemarle; and loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle.

Service and Burial: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Randall's United Methodist Church; Rev. Paul Burke officiating. Burial will follow at Randall's United Methodist Church Cemetery, Norwood. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV Chapter 12 Ritual Team.
