RICHFIELD - Kenneth Donald Holshouser, 85, of 24243 U.S. 52 South, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, at his home.

Born March 8, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Holshouser was a son of the late Luther Alexander and Sallie Raney Holshouser. He was educated in Rowan County schools, was an undergraduate of Catawba College and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for post graduate studies.

Mr. Holshouser retired from Pfeiffer University with 37 years of service. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist church.

A veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corp, he served during World War II for two years in the European Theater. He was a charter member and life member of Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342 in Salisbury.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Wagner Holshouser, on Nov. 16, 2006.

Surviving are brother Dwight Holshouser and wife Edith of Greensboro; sister Katie H. Morgan and husband Robert of Salisbury; a number of nieces and nephews; neighbor and special friends Katrina and George Sells; longtime friend and caregiver Patricia Long; and caregivers Judy and Martha.

Visitation and Service: The family will receive friends at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Monday 10-11 a.m. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Catherine N. Davis officiating. Burial will be at the church's cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.
