PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Eva Josephine "Jo" Frye Johnson, 80, of Melvin Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012.
Born Nov. 26, 1932, in Salisbury, N.C., Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband Ed on Sept. 28, 1994; and her parents, William B. and Carrie Miller Frye, Sr.
She was an avid gardener and for many years had a vegetable stand at Bob White and Melvin drives.
Survivors include her partner of 18 years, John Evanchik; one sister, Amy Elam of Charlotte, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Donnie, David, Daniel, Steven, Michael, Joy, Jessica and Billy; 10 great-grandchildren; children Chris and William; and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.
Service and Visitation: A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 1 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, by Mr. Keith Lewis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m.
