Lindy “Jack” Sifford

SALISBURY - Lindy "Jack" Sifford, 81, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at his residence.

Jack was born May 4, 1927, in Rowan County, the son of the late Henry J. and Carrie Rimer Sifford. Jack was educated in Rowan County schools, was a life-member of Faith Lutheran Church and a member of the church council. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy.

Jack had retired from Fieldcrest Cannon with 49 years of service and also retired from Rowan County. Jack was a member of Faith American Legion Post 327.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby J. Lowder.

Survivors include wife Virginia "Bill" Kluttz Sifford, whom he married April 6, 1947; son Lindy Sifford and wife Gail of Wilmington; daughter Gennene Parker and husband Jimmy of Rockwell; sister Peggy Moore of Salisbury; grandchildren Angie Sifford, Jeffrey and Julie Parker, Jeannie Davenport, Cammie and Jeremy Misenheimer; and great-grandchildren Trevor, Sarah, Brian, Colin and Evan.

Visitation: 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.

Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Stephen Gerhard and Rev. Clarence Sifford. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the North Carolina National Guard.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Building Fund.
