SALISBURY - Ruth Lingle Bernhardt, 87, of Salisbury, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Liberty Commons Nursing Home.

Born May 31, 1919, in Rowan County, Mrs. Bernhardt was the daughter of the late John A. Lingle and Mary Lyerly Lingle. A 1936 graduate of Granite Quarry High School, Mrs. Bernhardt worked for Cannon Mills Plant 1 Sewing Room and retired in 1980.

She was member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a former member of Christiana Lutheran Church, where she was active in WELCA, Jeannie Thomas Sunday School Class and was a Sunday School teacher in the Children's Department.

Mrs. Bernhardt loved to garden and fish and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son on Aug. 21, 1948; daughter Debbie B. Fisher on June 5, 2001; brothers Leo Lingle, Roy Lingle and Earl Lingle; and sisters Zelia L. Brown, Pauline L. Brown, Blanche L. Ritchie and Edith L. Hampton.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Parks Bernhardt, whom she married Oct. 19, 1941; son Perry Bernhardt and wife Lori of Salisbury; daughter Belinda Bernhardt Cozart and husband Johnny of Mooresville; brother Hoover A. Lingle of Salisbury; sister Hazel L. Canup of Salisbury; grandchildren Ashley C. Fisher and husband Jason, Brad P. Cozart & wife Heather, Amanda C. Holden and husband Joe, Jennifer Bernhardt, Melissa Bernhardt, Casey Fisher and Lauren Fisher; and great-grandchildren Jenna Fisher, Patrick Holden and Elleson Cozart.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell, and from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Funeral Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. William "Bill" Ketchie, pastor.

Memorials: St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ruth Bernhardt Memorial Fund.

Powles Funeral Home of Rockwell is serving the Bernhardt family.
