J.C. "Jake" Holshouser

FAITH - Mr. J.C. "Jake" Holshouser, 86, of Faith, passed away at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013.

J.C. was born Jan. 31, 1927, in Rowan County, the son of the late Clay James Holshouser and Oveda Jackson Holshouser.

J.C. was a graduate of Granite Quarry High School and attended Main Street United Methodist Church.

J.C. was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving with the 88th Infantry Division in Italy as a Light Machine Gunner during World War II. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Italy Occupation Medal. J.C. was a member of Faith American Legion Post 327.

He had retired from W.G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.

J.C. enjoyed gardening, fishing at the coast with his brothers and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Tom, Troy, Charlie and Jerry Dean Holshouser; and sisters Annie Mae Johnson and Mary Karriker.

Survivors include wife Betty Cooper Holshouser; son James Thomason and wife Rosemary; daughter Barbara Madden and husband Neil of Salisbury; brothers William "Buck" Holshouser of Faith, Kenneth Holshouser of Salisbury, Bill Holshouser of Faith, Bobby Holshouser of Salem, Va., and Terry Holshouser of Faith; sisters Louise Johnson of Faith and Doris Burris of Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.

Funeral Service: 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 1 at Main Street Methodist Church, Salisbury, conducted by Rev. Anna Mandelstamm.

Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell, with Military Rites by Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.
