Bobby "Ben" Hatley

ROCKWELL - Bobby Lee "Ben" Hatley, 76, of Rockwell, died Friday, February 1, 2008, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast, Concord.

He was born May 11, 1931, in Cabarrus County, a son of Cora Bell Barnhardt of Kannapolis.

Mr. Hatley was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from the City of Concord Public Works Department as Assistant Superintendent in 1989.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ailleen Drye Hatley, on December 31, 2003, one brother, Brady Barnhardt, and his maternal grandparents, Channie G. and Lillie Almond Hatley.

In addition to his mother, survivors include four children, Charles "Matt" Hatley and wife Mary, Mark Anthony Hatley, Karen Hatley Fournier and husband Bobby, Becky Hatley Lewis and husband John; a brother, Bob Barnhardt; one sister, Lillie Hilliard; eight grandchildren, Amanda Eudy, Sara Fournier, Adam Troutman, Jason Hatley, Ben Hatley, Cassie Hatley, Cody Hopkins and Katie Hopkins; and three great-grandchildren, Rylee Carrick, Chelby Carrick and Ally Eudy; an adopted daughter, Robin Hopkins and husband Sam; a special friend, Daisy Butler and husband L.C.; also many other special people who were like family to Pop.

Service: Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 5 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel with his daughter-in-law and Associate Pastor of Cold Springs United Methodist Church, Mary Hatley, officiating. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial be donated to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast, 920 Church St. N., Concord, NC in memory of Mr. Hatley.

Lady's Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the Hatley family.

The Hatley family wants to express their appreciation to the CMC NorthEast ICU and Intermediate Care Nurses, Emergency Room Staff and Respiratory Care Staff and EMS personnel for the loving care given Mr. Hatley.
