Blanch Brown Drew

Blanch Brown Drew, 92, formerly of Rockwell, passed away on Saturday, June 30 2018 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, Salisbury, NC. For the past four years she resided at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury. Mrs. Drew was born August 29, 1925 in Rowan County, daughter of the late William Lee Brown and Esther “Mom” Trexler Brown. 

She was a 1942 graduate of Rockwell High School. After graduation she worked as a timekeeper at Cannon Mills. Blanch was employed at Rockwell School cafeteria for 35 years, being the manager most of her career. Mrs. Drew was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, served on the church council, social ministry committee, and was a member of the Jane Boger-Esther Brown Circle. She chaired one of the food committees that provided meals for church events. Her community activities included a member of Eastern Star Rockwell Chapter 317, former member of Miller Russell Post 112 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Powles Staton Funeral Home TLC Group.

Mrs. Drew’s interests included sewing, needlework, cooking, gardening and nurturing others. Her greatest love was the devotion and care that she provided to her family and pet dog, Molly. Blanch married Edward E. Drew in 1947. They shared a wonderful and loving marriage for 38 years until his death in 1985. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother James L. Brown, sisters Ruby B. Ridenhour (York), and Nell B. Bost (Hoyt). 

Survivors include daughters Amy Hill (Terry) of Seven Lakes, NC and Joy King (Alan) of Salisbury; grandsons, Edward Hill (Alicia) of Seven Lakes, NC; Drew King (Julie) of Reston, VA; granddaughter Caroline King Dunham (Ryan) of Charlotte, NC. Great grandchildren include William, Caleb, and Henry Hill of Seven Lakes and Nora Dunham of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving is one sister-in-law Helen Brown of Salisbury, and many nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank caregiver Edith Gaither, along with the staff and caregivers at Trinity Oaks, Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, and Novant Health Rowan Medical Center for their loving care and compassion.

Memorials: Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund and the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House.

Visitation: The family will greet friends and relatives from 6:00-7:30 on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Powles Staton Funeral Home.

Service: The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens.
