Floyd Monroe Furr

Floyd Monroe Furr, 87, of 2012 E. Main St., Albemarle, died at 2:20 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at Stanly Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel. Elder Jimmy Gray and The Rev. Percy Cunningham will officiate. Burial will be in Running Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Locust. Graveside military honors will be by Stanly County DAV Chapter 12 Ritual Team. The family will be at the home, 2012 E. Main St.

Born Nov. 5, 1921 in Stanly County, he was a son of the late John Henry and Sarah Cleonia Burris Furr. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a 1942 graduate of Ridgecrest High School. Mr. Furr worked for HP Efird and later for Kinlaw International as a mechanic. He was also employed by the city of Albemarle in the sign department and was a volunteer fireman with Eastside Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Ray Furr, and two brothers, Joseph and Paul Furr.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Elizabeth Cunningham Furr of Albemarle; three sons, Lewis Monroe Furr of Locust, Melvin David Furr of Peachland, and Henry Lee Furr of Willow Springs; two brothers, Leonard Furr of Locust and Timothy Furr of Albemarle; five sisters, Rachael Liles of Concord, Beatrice Barrow of Jackson, Trullie Smith of Albemarle, Hazel Little of Locust, and Jane Little of Albemarle; and four grandchildren.
