SALISBURY - Wilbur "Bill" Brown Peeler, 71, of Salisbury, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at his residence. He has gone to live with his Heavenly Father.

Mr. Peeler was born March 1, 1935, in Rowan County, a son of the late Wilbur Clarence Peeler and Dora Mae Lyerly Peeler. He was a graduate of Granite Quarry High School.

Bill started working with Pilot Life & Jefferson Pilot, was top salesman, and for 12 years he was in the Presidents Club. He and his late wife, Sherry Stirewalt Peeler, were co-founders of Peeler Insurance Agency in 1979 until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Salisbury-Rowan Life Underwriters Club.

Mr. Peeler was a member of Shiloh Reformed Church for 37-1/2 years, serving as a Deacon and Elder. He moved his membership to St. Luke's Reformed Church in 1992, where he served and was twice president of the Church Council and received the Elder Emeritus Award. He was a member of the Brownie Fisher Sunday School Class and a member of the Brotherhood at both churches.

He was a former member of Faith Jaycees, he was retired from the Faith VFD, and was a former member of the Faith Civitan Club, where he was past president two times, former treasurer and secretary. He was a member of the Faith Fourth of July Committee and chaired the Hamburger Committee.

He was a member and past president of the East Rowan Camping Club and served on the Board of Elections for many years.

Bill loved and was loved by everyone. He was a devoted father, husband and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Sherry Stirewalt Peeler, on Oct. 13, 1991; four infants; brothers Bernard Peeler and Cecil Peeler; and sister Kathleen Lanning.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Peggy Honeycutt Pinkston Peeler, whom he married Aug. 1, 1992; sons W. Todd Peeler and Dale S. Peeler of Faith and Wayne Pinkston of Salisbury; daughters Lana Howard of Rockwell and Gina P. Wagner of Granite Quarry; brother Arnold Peeler of Salisbury; sisters Ruby Lassiter of Linwood, Phyllis Collins of China Grove, Virginia Holshouser, Jean Shuping and Jeanette Crook, all of Rockwell; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Service: The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Shiloh Reformed Church conducted by the Rev. Johnny Boggs, pastor of St. Luke's Reformed Church, and the Rev. Wayne Trexler, pastor of Shiloh Reformed Church. Civitans will be seated as a group for the service. Burial will be at Shiloh Reformed Church Cemetery with Fireman's Graveside Service conducted by the Rowan County Fire Association Honor Guard and the Faith VFD.

Visitation: The family was at Powles Funeral Home from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday and will be at the residence the remainder of the time.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Reformed Church, or Rowan Regional Home Health & Hospice.
