LINWOOD - Ruby Peeler Lassiter, age 95, of Highway 150 South, passed away early Thursday (May 29, 2014) in Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, Salisbury, after declining health of six months.

Ruby was born in Rowan County Jan. 3, 1919, to the late Clarence Wilbert Peeler and Dora Lyerly Peeler. She graduated from Granite Quarry High School in 1935 and retired from R.W. Norman's in Salisbury.

She was a member of Senior Citizens groups and at her church, she was a member of the Rosa Lanning Circle (WMU).

On Sept. 11, 1937, she married Jesse Ray Lassiter, who preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1996. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Bernard, Cecil and Bill Peeler; sisters Kathleen Lanning, Virginia Holshouser, Phyllis Collins and Jeanette Crook.

Surviving Ruby are daughters Nancy Cagle (Ronald) of Fort Worth Tex., Becky Koonts (Darrell) of Lexington and Barbara Foster (Butch) of Southport; seven grandchildren, Jeff Forrest, Barry Forrest, Tim Koonts, Rusty Koonts, Chris Foster, Debbie Weimer and Lynn Nelson; 14 great-grandchildren, Aaron Forrest, Jessie Forrest, Nick Forrest, Hillary Forrest, Matthew Forrest, Sara Forrest, Megan Koonts, Taylor Koonts, Jordon Koonts, Jack Koonts, Morgan Nelson, Nick Nelson, Justin Creech and Chelsea Jones; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Arnold Peeler (Ann) of Rockwell; a sister, Jean Shuping of Rockwell; a special niece, Joan Young; and special friends who helped care for Ruby, Jim and Shelby Orrell, Vee Condrey, Bonnie Byerly, Margie Everhart, Hattie and Dave Cummins, Sharon and Ed Frye.

Service: A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at Smith Grove Baptist Church where she was a member, conducted by Rev. Terry Smith. Burial will follow in Smith Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel; and other times at the home of Darrell and Becky Koonts, 128 Oakmont Terrace, Lexington.
