SALISBURY - Mr. Ray Franklin File, 74, of Salisbury, died May 5, 2010, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Mr. File was born March 13, 1936, in Rowan County, son of the late Roy File and Inez Holshouser File.

A graduate of Rockwell High School, Mr. File was employed by the City of Salisbury as a Sanitation Division Superintendent. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church.

Ray was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and farming. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren play sports.

Mr. File is survived by his wife, Doris Holshouser File, whom he married June 1, 1957; four sons, Frank File and wife Laurie of Salisbury, Doug File and wife Tammy of Salisbury, Randy File of Salisbury and Tom File of Salisbury; brother Bud File and wife Kim of China Grove; sisters Lucille Patterson of Rockwell, Frances Shoe and husband James of Rockwell, Linda Kepley and husband Wayne of Rockwell and Vickie Culp of Rockwell.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Zachary, Austin, Madalyn, Katie, Tanner and Paiton File; step-grandchildren Christopher Harvell and Hannah Kepley; and step-great-grandchild Lily Kepley.

Service: The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at St. Matthews Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Gary Coble, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell and the remainder of the time at the home of the son, Mr. Frank File of Salisbury.

Memorials: May be made to St. Matthews Family Life Center.
