ROCKWELL - David Wayne Freeman, 52, of Rockwell, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

David was born May 5, 1956, a son of Lucille Patterson and the late William Luther Freeman. A 1974 graduate of East Rowan High School, David attended Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Vietnam War.

David worked for Voith Paper for 22 years and Gamewell Manufacturing as a machinist and parts manager.

He was a member of Grace Lower Stone Church, a member of the Brotherhood, and a member of Miller-Russell American Legion Post 112.

David was a former coach for the East Rowan Little League, an Eagle Scout and former assistant Scout Master at Troop 350.

David enjoyed farming, helping Rockwell Rural Fire Department and cutting wood. David was on the "Chain Gang" at the East Rowan home football games.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Rose Earnhardt Freeman, whom he married Aug. 8, 1980; son Trenton Luther Freeman of Fort Benning, Ga.; daughter Kori Nicole Freeman of Salisbury; grandchildren Madison and Brantley; brother Kenny Patterson and wife Donna of Rockwell; stepbrothers Raymond "Bo" Patterson and wife Nina of Talbolt, Tenn., Terry Patterson of Gold Hill and David Paul Patterson of Talbolt, Tenn.; and sister Linda Prince and husband Winston of Tyro.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Powles Funeral Home from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5 and will be at the residence the remainder of the time.

Services: A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Lower Stone Church conducted by Rev. Spencer Swain, pastor, and Rev. Alonzo "Al" Williams, pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church in East Spencer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials: May be made to Tucker Hospice House of Cabarrus County, or Grace Lower Stone Church.

Powles Funeral Home is assisting the Freeman family.
