Mae Hill Stikeleather
GOLD HILL - Mae Hill Stikeleather, 93, of Gold Hill, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at her residence. Born April 15, 1913, in Rowan County to the late Luther Hill and Bertha Basinger Hill, Mrs. Stikeleather attended Rowan County schools and had worked in the Spinning Room at Cartex Mills for 45 years. She was a member of St. Peter 's Lutheran Church and Carolina Artist, being an avid painter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hoy B. Stikeleather, on Nov. 3, 1989, and brothers Carlee Hill, Lester Hill and Delmer Hill.
Survivors include a niece with whom she made her home, Leighanne Lester Ragan and husband Otis of Gold Hill; nieces Betty Castle and husband Willie of Yorktown, Va., Brenda Luther and husband Ed of Newport News, Va.; nephew Johnny Hill of Grafton, Va.; sister Norma Jean Lester and husband Harold of Gold Hill; and caregiver Helen Eddleman of Rockwell.
Graveside services : 2 p.m. today at Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury, conducted by Dr. Benny L. Vickrey Sr., pastor of First Baptist Church of Rockwell.
Memorials : First Baptist Church of Rockwell; or Rowan Christian Assembly; or Gideons International.
