Velma Ruth Parker Norris
Velma Ruth Parker Norris, 88, of Albemarle, died at 10:23 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening at Stanly Funeral Home. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Luther’s Lutheran Church in Richfield, where she was a member. Pastor Carol Yeager and The Rev. Mark Medlin will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Born Oct. 9, 1920, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Mary Jane Wyatt Parker and was a homemaker.
She was married to the late Everett Weidon Norris who preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 1992. Three sisters, Frances Trexlar, Mae Parker Lambert and Ethel Carriker, and a brother, Clifford Parker, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Cathy Norris Helms of Albemarle; a brother, Leon Parker of Albemarle; a sister, Jeanette Parker of Richfield; two grandchildren, Trena Glover and Farrah Cook, both of New London; and four great-grandchildren, Payton Glover, Megan Glover, Miranda Glover and Bradyn Cook.
Memorials may be made to Luther’s Lutheran Church, 4955 Richfield Road.
