Robert Lee Basinger

Robert Lee Basinger went to be with our Lord on Saturday, December 16, 2023. He was born on September 3, 1922. He lived 101 years and passed away at Trinity Oaks Health and Rehab.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brown and Ivy Basinger; wife, Hildred Weatherman Basinger, sisters, Lucille Smith, Ethel Weant; brother, Herman Basinger; and cousin, George Basinger.

Robert served in the United States Army during World War II in the Heavy Artillery Unit. He fought through France and Germany and loved telling stories about his service to his country. After his service ended he worked at Cannon Mills and his father's farm and their saw mill. He drove a fertilizer truck and was a mister-fix-it. Robert had a love of cooking and loved sharing recipes. He was a member of Rock Grove Methodist Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his fateful friend and companion of 22 years, Aliene Cauble McCombs and her daughters, the late Christy Yoe, Sharon McCombs Deal (Bo), Peggy McCombs Artz (Danny), and their children, Steven Yates (Jessica), Dustin Artz (Audrey), and their daughter Eleanor, who he helped keep as a baby, Haley Shaffer (Craig); great-niece, Martie Buurkett (Mike), who he also helped raise and loved very much; his nieces and nephew; his good friends and lifelong neighbors, Rick and Linda Yost, who loved him and always looked after him; and Betty Basinger, who the family wishes to thank for all she has done.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of Trinity Oaks Health and Rehab for all their love and special care of Robert.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Friday, December 22, 10:30 am - 11:00 am at Powles Staton Funeral Home.

The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am on Friday, in the chapel of Powles Staton Funeral Home, with Rev. Richard Myers officiating.

Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens in Rockwell.
