William Atkins

ALBEMARLE -- Mr. William Shaver Atkins, 95, of 625 Bethany Road, died Friday, January 24, 2003 at Stanly Manor Nursing Center, Albemarle. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Gold Hill Cemetery.

Born January 10, 1908 in Badin, NC, he was the son of the late Benjamin Thomas and Dora Lee Shaver Atkins. He was the retired owner and operator of Atkins Grocery, an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved his farm, raising cattle and border terriers. He was the widower of the late Bessie Lee Poole Atkins who preceded him in death in 1984. A son, Benjamin Thomas Atkins preceded him in death in 2002.

Surviving are his daughters, Jo Anna Grigg of Albemarle, NC, Patricia McDevitt of Southern Pines, NC, Billie Barbee of Albemarle, NC and Barbara Royster of Charlotte, NC; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Stanly Funeral Home is serving the Atkins family.
