Edith Ritchie Ketner

Edith Ritchie Ketner, 92, of Salisbury passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Edith was born on January 30, 1923 in Faith, NC a daughter of the late William J. and Grace Beck Ritchie.

Edith attended Faith Elementary School and was a 1939 graduate of Granite Quarry High School. Having been born and raised in Faith, Edith never missed a Faith Fourth of July Celebration, she was the Statue of Liberty in the first Faith Parade in 1947.

In 1963 Edith and her husband Zane moved to Monroe and lived there until 1978. While in Monroe, Edith worked as a census taker, and at election precincts; she was a volunteer Girl Scout Leader; and worked for H&R Block in Charlotte for 5 years. While living in Monroe, Edith was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

After moving back to Salisbury, Edith worked for H&R Block in Salisbury for 4 years and China Grove for 2 years. She became a member of Organ Lutheran Church, and was active with the O Wings Circle and the Organ Senior Citizens Group. Edith was also a member of the Young at Heart Senior Group in Rockwell.

Edith was an avid reader, she enjoyed canning, gardening and sewing for herself and her four daughters. She loved traveling with her husband throughout the United States and Canada after her children were grown.

In addition to her parents, Edith is preceded in death by her husband, Zane Cruse Ketner on December 4, 2005. Brothers, Hoyle Ritchie and W.J. Ritchie; and sisters, Inez R. Harwood and Willette R. Yates.

Edith is survived by her children, Ronald Ketner and wife Letty of Charlotte, Terry K. Emry and husband Raleigh of Austin, TX, Carol K. Courtney and husband Greg of Mineral Springs, Janice K. Murray of Salisbury, and Judith K. Mills and husband Michael of Reidsville. Edith is survived by 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by a brother in law, Leebert Ketner and wife Barbara, and sister in law, Lou Ellen Shuping.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Organ Lutheran Church.

The Funeral will be held on Saturday, May 16th at 2:00 PM at Organ Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Carlin Ours, Pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Organ Lutheran Church.
