Eugene Ervin Basinger
Eugene Ervin Basinger went to be with Jesus July 10, 2016. He battled with dementia for several years.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Friday, July 15 at Epworth United Methodist Church. The service will follow at 11:00. The graveside service with military honors, will be held at Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Basinger was the son of the late Walter Lee Basinger and Bessie Mae Sloop Basinger. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae Barringer Basinger, one daughter, Shelia Sherrill, two sisters, two half-sisters, three brothers and three half-brothers.
Gene retired from Cannon Mills after 30 years of service. He served our country in the US Army during WWII. He enjoyed gardening, being with his family and attending church activities at Epworth Methodist Church where he was a longtime member. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his daughter, Gena Freeman and husband, Mark of Concord; son-in-law, John Sherrill; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
