Notes for Irene Jeanette Morgan
Irene Morgan Carter

CONCORD - Irene Morgan Carter, 86, peacefully passed away July 24, 2009, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast surrounded by her sons Ed and Michael. She had been in declining health for several months and seriously ill for the past week. She resided at the Brian Center of Cabarrus County.

She was born Aug. 8, 1922, in Rowan County, daughter of the late Jim Morgan and Lillie Trexler Morgan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gene Carter, in 1989.

Survivors include sons Ed Carter and wife Joan, Mike Carter and wife Mickey, "her unofficial daughter"; granddaughters April and Kim; grandsons Scott and Alex; great-granddaughters Cassidy and Brooke; great-grandsons Alex, Brandon and Ryan; as well as her loving Yorkie, Daisy.

She owned and ran Irene's Beauty Shop for many years until her retirement. She was a loving and caring mother who worked many hours in her beauty shop to help support the family during her husband's illness. She made sure her sons were always scrubbed clean and well fed. She was a lifelong member of Centerview Baptist Church, Kannapolis.

She was also an accomplished seamstress and made many of the clothes the family wore.

An avid fisherman, Irene would go fishing as often as she could. She and her husband, Gene, kept the fishing gear in the trunk of the car ready to go at anytime. She last fished a year ago while in her wheelchair and enjoyed catching the fish as much as always.

She enjoyed an outing every Saturday with her sons; visiting with friends and seeing the countryside; and eating her chicken sandwich, which brought a smile to her face.

Service and Visitation: Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 26 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel officiated by Rev. Willie Rash. Internment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.

The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Phyllis Hall, the other daughter whom Mother had never had, for the loving care and friendship she has provided to our mother.
