Rachel Smith Harwood
Rachel Pauline Smith Harwood, 90 of Mt. Pleasant, passed away, Tuesday, September 24, at Atrium- Cabarrus.
Funeral service will be 2:00pm Saturday at Mission Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Jeremy Hyde, where she will lie in state from 1-2pm prior to the service. Burial will follow at Running Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Harwood family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday evening at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Harwood was born July 22, 1929 in Cabarrus County daughter of the late Daniel Smith and Rebecca Lewis Smith. She was a member of Mission Baptist Church and was very active in church fellowship groups. She was a retired secretary having worked for Western-Southern Life Insurance, Hartsell, Hartsell and Mills Law Firm, Barber Scotia College and JC Penney. She enjoyed flower gardening, dancing, sewing and playing bingo. In addition to her parents, Rachel was predeceased by her husband Spence Harwood in 2003.
She is survived by daughters, Susan Suther (Charlie), Melanie Melius (Scott); sons, Danny Harwood and Steven Harwood; grandchildren, Ashley Harwood, Stefanie Suther and Jonathan Suther (Heather); great grandchildren, Samantha and Cameron.
Memorials may be directed to Mission Baptist Church.
