Ola Mae Harkey

CONCORD Ola Mae Furr Harkey, 82, of Concord, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at Carebridge Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant.

The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord today, Jan. 18, 2012, from 6 until 8 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at Back Creek Presbyterian Church (ARP), 18621 Back Creek Church Rd., Charlotte, on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at 4 p.m. Rev. Wayne Frazier will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

At other times the family will meet at her home.

Ola Mae was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Stanly County, to the late Millard Hubert and Tina Louise Lambert Furr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Vernon Furr, Dave Furr and Roy Furr; a sister, Annie Belle Almond; and a daughter-in-law, Crystal Harkey.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie Junior Harkey of the home; son, Donald Harkey of Albemarle; daughter, Gail Vermillion and husband, David, of Concord; four grandchildren, Emily Mauldin and husband, Tim, Adam Vermillion and wife, Emily, Daniel Harkey and Philip Vermillion; one great-grandchild, Claire Crystal Mauldin; brother, Coy Furr of Albemarle; six sisters, Ruby Furr and Irene Caldwell of Albemarle, Lillian Dellinger of Falston, Betty Jean Furr of Pacolet, S.C., Christine Drye of Stanfield and Brenda Walker of Mt. Pleasant; and a sister-in-law, Leola Furr of Albemarle.

Mrs. Harkey, a devoted mother and grandmother, was a homemaker and a seamstress for her family and friends. She enjoyed vegetable gardening and working in her beautiful rose garden. She was employed by Kayser-Roth Hosiery Mill for ten years. Ola Mae was a member of Back Creek Presbyterian (ARP) Church where she loved to take care of the nursery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, Kannapolis, NC; Back Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, Charlotte, NC; or Coltrane L.I.F.E Center, Concord, NC.
