Roy Furr

Sunday, January 4, 2009 — Roy Davis Furr, 77, of 104 E. Sunset Drive, Locust, died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at his home.

His funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, with a 30-minute state at Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Albemarle. Kirk Sams officiated and burial was in the church cemetery with graveside honors by Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.

Born July 25, 1931, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Millard Hubert and Tina Lambert Furr. He was a chief aviation machinist mechanic for the U.S. Navy and fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Mr. Furr was a dedicated Scout with Wood Badge and Silver Beaver.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivy Ella Summers Furr; a daughter, Ivy Ella “Muff” Furr; two brothers, Dave L. Furr and Vernon Furr; and a sister, Annie Belle Almond.

He is survived by a son, Roy D. Furr; a brother, Coy R. Furr of Albemarle; and seven sisters, Ruby L. Furr of Albemarle, Ola Mae Harkey of Concord, Irene F. Caldwell of Albemarle, Betty Jean Furr of Pacolet, S.C., Lillian Dellinger of Fallston, Christine Drye of Stanfield and Brenda F. Walker of Mt. Pleasant.

Memorials may be made to: Hospice of Stanly County, or Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
