Notes for Mary Loretta Austin
Mary Austin Smith

SALISBURY - Mary Loretta Austin Smith - This is a notice of celebration that Mary Loretta Austin Smith, age 65, passed from this world to her heavenly home on July 30, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Rowan Regional Medical Center after two weeks of being critically ill.

Loretta was born Jan. 28, 1943, in Rowan county, a daughter of Raymond Lee Austin and the late Mary Inez Bringle Austin. She was educated in Rowan County and graduated from North Rowan High School in the class of 1961.

Loretta was cafeteria manager of North Rowan Middle School and then Erwin Middle School for a total of 30 years of service. One of her greatest joys was serving good food and enjoying the students and faculty who always had compliments for the cafeteria lady.

In retirement, Loretta enjoyed cooking for her family, reading a good book, spending time with her grandson Corbin and putting puzzles together.

Loretta was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Austin, Jr.

She lives on in the hearts and lives of many loved ones: William Ronald Smith, husband, whom she married July 9, 1961; one son, Randall Todd Smith and wife Kelly of Salisbury; one daughter, Rhonda Smith Elliott and husband John of Gold Hill; one precious grandson, Corbin Elliott; two brothers, Ernest Austin and wife Pat of Salisbury and Rick Austin and wife Pat of Kannapolis; one sister, Helen Peacock and husband Gordon of Salisbury; mother-in-law Frances Smith of Mocksville; sister-in-law Marsha Correll and husband Robert of Mocksville; nephews Chris Austin, Zac Austin and Lewis Correll; nieces Angela Abernethy, Tricia Austin, Tara Austin and Laura Ward; and great-niece Lily Abernethy.

Loretta was a lifetime member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Triangle Missionary Circle.

God has you in his keeping. We have you in our hearts for nothing loved is ever lost.
