ALBEMARLE - Dorton Vance Hatley, 82, of 809 Elaine Drive, passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Stanly Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Hatley was born March 29, 1926, in Stanly County. He was the son of the late Daniel Vance Hatley and Ida Mae Morton Hatley.
Mr. Hatley was retired from the Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. with 35 years of service as a plant manager. He was also a veteran of WWII, he served in the United States Marine Corp, Pacific Theatre.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Marie Sides Hatley; sisters, Geneva Hatley Laton, Peggy Hatley Branch and Gladys Hatley Rice; and brothers, Jimmie Donald Hatley and Marvin Eli Hatley.
Survivors include, daughters, Melinda Hatley Dunham and husband Woody of Albemarle, Tammy Hatley Jeske and husband Steve of Birmingham, Mich., Donna Hatley Sloop and husband Donnie of Salisbury; grandchildren, Justin Dunham, Meghan Dunham Johnson and husband Cody, Lauren Ward, Trevor and Tyler Jeske; great-grandchild, Hailee Reynolds; special friend, Wilma W. Hatley of Albemarle; sister, Evelyn Young of Charlotte; and brother, Joe Lloyd Hatley of Albemarle.
Service: 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1 at Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Elder David Anderson and Elder Rommie Williams officiating.
Burial: Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.
Memorials: Memorials may be made to Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Curtis Furr, 25887 Millingport Road, Albemarle, NC.
The family will meet at his home, 809 Elaine Drive, Albemarle.
