Cleona Virginia Barringer Lowder

Cleona Virginia Barringer Lowder, 89, of Albemarle, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Trinity Place.

Cleona was born November 1, 1932 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina to the late Ernest Gates Barringer and the late Nora Annabelle Hurlocker Barringer.

She was also preceded in death by husband, Billie Marr Lowder, son, Lowell Bryan Lowder, brother, George Addison Barringer, and sisters, Emily Hill and Mary Bangle.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 10:45 am, Monday, November 7, 2022 at Salem United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 11:00 am at Salem United Methodist Church in Albemarle officiated by Rev. David Talbert. Burial will follow at the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery at 20987 NC 73 Hwy, Albemarle.

Survivors include daughter, Trudie Whitley of New London, NC, nieces, Linda Barringer and Lisa (Tim) Coates, and step-granddaughter Johnlyn (Eddie) Morton.

Positions held by Cleona included Treasurer of the Millingport  PTA and Cub Scout Den Mother at Salem Church; she also served as both President and Vice-President of the Albemarle AARP organization for four years and President of the Home Demonstration Club of Millingport.

Cleona was very active at Salem United Methodist Church.  She sang in the church choir and served as Church Historian for ten years.  She served with both General Circles and was Chairperson of the "Christian Social Concerns" office for the Albemarle district for four and a half years. Cleona was also in charge of the "Court Watch" (guarding the needs of children) for three counties, representing the United Methodist Women.

She was employed by the Albemarle Social Services Office as an eligibility specialist for the food stamp program and the Golden Age Transportation Service.  She also worked as secretary for World Elastic Corporation in Concord, NC.  She and her husband Bill worked on the family dairy for many years. They also owned and operated Koretizing Cleaners in Salisbury and enjoyed managing the Lamplighter Inn near Cherokee, NC.

Memorials may be made to the general fund at Salem United Methodist Church, or to an organization of your choice.
