James Edward Zimmerman

James Edward Zimmerman, went to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully on September 18, 2023 after a short illness.

James, also known as Jamie, was born on May 31st, 1932 in Rowan County to the late Freeman and Nola Zimmerman.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Zimmerman, his brothers and sister William, Lee, Reymont, and Sarah.

He was educated at Ellis School here in Rowan County. He grew up on the family farm and carried his love of farming and animals throughout his life. He started working in the grocery store business before he was called to the service of his country. He was placed in the Third Armored Calvary Regiment during the Korean War. When he was discharged, he returned home to marry his love Betty Connor, February 5th, 1955. They were married for 67 beautiful years. He returned to the grocery business and co-owned the Zimmerman and Shuping Grocer on Hwy 601 here in Salisbury. Many long-lasting friendships and memories were made from the 35 years of running his grocery store. James was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church.

He always enjoyed his farm where he raised Black Angus cattle and large gardens with his wife and children. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. James and his wife always enjoyed traveling around the U.S. to attend his Army Reunions with his unit. Above all, he loved his family dearly, spending lots of time with his granddaughters and great grandchildren in his later years.

James is survived by his two children Jamie Lee Zimmerman and Crystal (Joey) Bullock; granddaughters, Kimberly Farris (Justin), Melissa Bullock, and Anna Bullock; great-grandchildren, Connor and Caleb Farris, Jackson and Evelyn Hoven.

Arrangements: Visitation will be held Friday September 22nd from 10 am- 11 am at Bethel Lutheran Church 355 E. Ridge Rd., Salisbury NC. Service will follow at 11am with Pastor Mike Lang and Reverend Mike Motley officiating.
