Minnie Lyerly Trexler

ROCKWELL - Mrs. Minnie Garnell Lyerly Trexler, 86, of Rockwell, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Alston Brook in Lexington.

She was born Sept. 7, 1925, in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Minnie Stoner Lyerly and Roy Lester Lyerly. Mrs. Trexler was educated in Rowan County schools and was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and a member and past President of the Suttle Trexler Sunday School Class. She was a life member of WELCA, Auxiliary Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. Mrs. Trexler cared for the Communion Linen Cloths and worked out the flower chart for years and was on the bereavement committee.

She cared for children for 41 years in the Rockwell community, was a charter member of the Vanhoy Sells VFW, a member of American Legion Auxiliary, a charter member of Rockwell Young at Heart Club, and was a member of Rockwell Senior Citizens Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Max Trexler, who died in 1973; a daughter, Nancy Marlene Trexler, who died in 1970; sisters Willie Mae Lyerly Mills and Athaline Lyerly Call; and brothers Leroy Lyerly and Cecil Lyerly.

Survivors include a son, Johnny Max Trexler and wife Sandra of Granite Quarry; sister Shirley Ann Wagoner of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandson Adam M. Trexler; step-grandchildren Michael Mills and Billie Brown; one great-grandchild; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Service: Services will be held on Thursday, May 31 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Rockwell, conducted by Rev. Craig Sigmon, pastor. The Senior Citizens Club will be seated as a group.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation: Visitation will be Thursday, May 31 from 1 to 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church.

Memorials: May be made to St. James Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 486, Rockwell.
