GRANITE QUARRY - Barbara Sue Lyerly, 66, of Granite Quarry, passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at her home.

Mrs. Lyerly was born March 31, 1941, in Rowan County. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Alexander Lyerly Jr. and Rose Earnhardt Lyerly. Barbara was a 1959 graduate of Granite Quarry High School and attended Piedmont Community College of Charlotte.

She worked at Rowan Regional Medical Center in various departments and had previously worked at CVS, Food Lion Corporate Office, and Owens-Illinois Box Plant.

She was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, was the first Miss Flame of Rowan County and also competed in the Horticulture and Agriculture Competition at the Rowan County Fair. She enjoyed and loved her grandchildren.

Survivors include son Chris C. Lyerly and wife Becky of Granite Quarry; brother Alan Lyerly and wife Donna of Salisbury; sisters Jean Lilley of Atlanta, Ga., and Cynthia Alligood and husband Travis of Salisbury; and two grandchildren, Chelsea and Chase Lyerly.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at Powles Funeral Home of Rockwell; and the family will be at the home of the son, Chris Lyerly, the remainder of the time.

Funeral Services: 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. William S. Ketchie, Pastor. Burial will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Salisbury.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul's Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.
