Velma Irene Almond
Velma Irene Whitley Almond, 93 years of age, of Stanfield, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the home of her son in Stanfield.
Irene was born August 11, 1922 in Stanly County to the late Walter Hervey Whitley and the late Emily Frances Furr Whitley. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, David Delmar Almond, Sr., an infant son, William Hervey Almond, and eight brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Canton Baptist Church, 24615 Endy Road, Albemarle. The funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 3:00 pm officiated by Rev. Mark Mabry and Rev Gary Hunsucker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include son, David (Frances) Almond of Stanfield, daughter, Emily (Doug) Moose of Albemarle, grandchildren, Joseph Tyler Whitley of Oakboro, Carrie Whitley Lisenby of Albemarle, Ila Jane Moose of Winston Salem, great-grandchildren, Robbie Whitley and Morgan Lisenby, brother, Garrett G. Whitley of High Point.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County and the Uwharrie, 960 North First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001 or Friends of the Senior Center - Family Caregiver Support Program, 283 N. 3rd Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.
