Notes for Billy Vann Almond
Billy Vann Almond

Billy Vann Almond, age 79, passed away on December 18 at his home in Port Orange, Florida surrounded by his family.

Billy was owner and operator of Bill’s Commercial Heating and Air Conditioning for 40 years. Throughout his 40 years in business, Billy installed and serviced heating and cooling for commercial buildings, many of the ocean front motels, condos, and residential. Billy was always known for his integrity and honesty and operated his very successful business in exactly that manner. His office manager of 35 years, Ginny Little, would get upset when he made a contract with just a handshake. Over the years many of the present Heating and Air Conditioning Companies in the area at one time or another would contact him for advice, which he always gave freely. Billy sold his business six years ago and missed his customers greatly.

He was a 33rd Degree Mason out of his hometown of Albemarle, N.C., Lodge #348. He was a member of Canton Baptist Church, Albemarle, N.C. He served in the United States Navy for four years. Billy was preceded in death by his beloved doggie “Trixie” whom he so loved.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Dorothy “Dinky” Almond with whom on their 40th wedding anniversary, this past Thanksgiving Day, renewed their wedding vows at the home of Katherine Michaels in Port Orange. He was blessed to enjoy his six daughters, Linda Almond Ruckert (Bob), Vickie Carey (Jimmy), Sharon Almond, Terry Jones (Al), Lisa Almond Schmidt (John), Kim Almond (Bob) and one son Ronny Powell. He also had eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Billy loved to hunt in Colorado, where he loved to see wildlife and the beautiful scenery. He loved to travel in his motor home and went on several trips all over the United States and the world.

Billy was also survived by brothers Clyde (Lois), Tommy (Joan), and sister Doris, all of Albemarle, N.C. Billy will be missed by his good friends Frank and Aggie Ritchey, Harold “Pete” and Polly Peterson, his sisters-in-law Pearl “Sissy” Iler and Buzzy Prince, and a host of nieces and nephews and loving friends.

The family would like in lieu of flowers to contribute to Hospice of Flagler and Volusia County and the Ronald McDonald House. One last request from the family is to hug someone today and tell them you love them. Billy will surely be missed by all that knew him. Men like him don’t happen everyday.

The family would like to invite friends to share with them in a celebration of Billy’s life to be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4 at Heritage Condominiums, located at 101 John Anderson Dr., the corner of John Anderson and Granada Avenue, Ormond Beach, Florida. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Cardwell Funeral Home, Port Orange, FL.
