Elbert Maurice Cline

Elbert Maurice Cline, 82, of Kannapolis died Friday, March 2, 2018 at his home after a period of declining health. 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 6 at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, with Pastor John Futterer and Deacon Liz Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at First Baptist Church of Huntersville church cemetery. His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, March 5 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. 

Elbert was born December 8, 1935 in Rowan Co., a son of the late Eddie Lee and Lola Eagle Cline. He was the youngest and last surviving of their six boys. In addition to his parents and 5 brothers, Elbert was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane McSwain Cline. 

Elbert was an active and supportive member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of the US Army, stationed in Germany in the late 50’s and was an active member of the American Legion Post 115. Elbert served the community as a corrections officer for the state of NC, retiring after 30 years. He also was a CNA and served part-time as an EMT and was a volunteer fireman. Elbert was a friend to many and loved to be around people. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Judy Renee Cline of Kannapolis and his son, Maurice R. Cline (Trish) of Basalt CO, two grandchildren; Charity “Nikki” Shawver (Mason) of Cumming GA and Christopher Cline of the Greater Atlanta area and two great-grandchildren Brody and Luca Shawver. He is also survived by his special caregiver, Lisa Stirewalt and her 5 grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
