Notes for Kathryn Ann Speight
Kathryn Laton

Kathryn Ann Speight Laton, 91, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Trinity Place Albemarle.  She was born in Elberton, Georgia on March 12, 1930, to Amos Virgil and Lillian Griffin Speight.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of sixty-nine years Luther James Laton, and great-granddaughter Violette Isabelle Laton.

Mrs. Laton devoted her life to raising her children and maintaining her home.  Her greatest happiness was her family.  She was a generous, tender-hearted woman who was kind to all she met.  She was employed for many years at Young Manufacturing Company in Norwood and later assisted the Town Clerk at the Norwood Town Office.

Mrs. Laton loved God and was a longtime faithful member of Norwood First United Methodist Church.  She was active in the United Methodist Women, the Faithful Circle of which she served as both secretary and treasurer and was a member of the Herbert Garmon Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her three children:  Steve Laton and wife Marcie of Albemarle; Ann Hayward and her husband Tony of Monroe, LA; Donald Laton of Raleigh; brother Amos Speight and wife Marian of Fayetteville, GA; four grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.

There will not be a scheduled family visitation.  A viewing will be held at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, from 2 – 4 pm.  All family and friends are welcome to attend.

The funeral will be held Thursday, March 10th at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Norwood.  Interment will be at Norview Gardens in Norwood following the service.

Memorials may be given in her memory to First United Methodist Church of Norwood or the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford, NC.
