Sunday, March 16, 2008 ― Lois Tarleton Morton of 25024 Hwy. 24/27, Albemarle, died at 2:28 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, at her home. Her funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in Canton Baptist Church. The Rev. Mark Mabry will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. A native of Goose Creek Township in Union County, she was a daughter of the late Atlas and Nancy Simpson Tarleton and was a homemaker. She was very active in church throughout her life. Memberships included New Hope Baptist Church, Poplin Grove Baptist Church and Canton Baptist Church. At one time, she was Young People’s Leader of the Stanly Baptist Association. She was a church pianist and organist. An avid gardener, she always had a yard full of flowers. She enjoyed traveling and visited Mexico, Israel, Egypt, Jerusalem and Russia and many other places throughout her life. She enjoyed politics and was an avid Republican, having been the first chairman of the Women’s Republican Organization of Stanly County. She loved to campaign and especially enjoyed encouraging people to vote. She enjoyed animals and fishing with her husband. Above all, she loved her family very much and had a variety of interests that always involved people. Her husband, Joshua J. Morton, Sr., preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Joshua J. Morton Jr. of Albemarle; a grandson, Joshua J. Morton, III, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Emily Dianne Krause and husband, Robert, of Rock Hill, S.C. The family was to receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. At other times they will meet at the home of her son, Joshua J. Morton Jr., 25002 N.C. Hwy. 24/27, Albemarle. Memorials may be made to Canton Baptist Church, 24615 Endy Road, Albemarle, NC 28001, or New Hope Baptist Church, 5928 New Salem Road, Marshville, NC 28103.
