Cathern Earlene Cranford Crossett

Mrs. Cathern Earlene Cranford Crossett, 83, of Faith, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury due to complications of a stroke before Thanksgiving. She was born August 2, 1931, in Rowan County to the late McCoy Lee and Lettie Agner Cranford.

Mrs. Crossett was a graduate of Rockwell High School and worked during her teenage years at
Kress in Salisbury, followed by Cannon Mills as a wash cloth trimmer, and retired from East Rowan High School in Food Service.

She was originally a member of Providence United Methodist Church in Salisbury and a current, longtime member of Faith Baptist Church in Faith, where she taught Sunday School for children for many years.

Mrs. Crossett was known as the "Rag Rug and Doll Clothes Lady" at numerous Autumn Jubilees. She was very active and independent until November and loved the beach, being outdoors, and gardening.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crossett was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Howard Thomas Crossett in 1984, whom she married November 27, 1954; sisters, Marie Cranford Poole, Mary Lou Cranford Morgan, Madelene May Cranford; and grandparents, James and Josephine Eagle Cranford and David and Mary Wyatt Agner.

She is survived by her children, Cathy Crossett Wood and husband, Gary, of Salisbury, Cindy Crossett Shelby and husband, Daryl, of Salisbury, and Barry Thomas Crossett and wife, Kelly, of Cary; grandchildren, Christy Shelby Little and husband, Brian, of Greenville, SC, Thomas Parris Shelby of Monterey, CA, Sarah Marie Crossett and James Thomas Crossett of Cary; Additionally she is survived by her brother, Jimmie "Sonny" Cranford and wife, Elizabeth, of Zebulon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Many thanks, over the past six weeks, to the staff of Novant Health-Rowan Medical Center, Dr. Ronnie Barrier, the staff of Autumn Care, and the staff of the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. A special thanks to those who shared a prayer or song, and offered support for her family during this time.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 10 from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at Faith Baptist Church.

The funeral service will follow at 11: 00 AM at the church, conducted by Rev. Mike Shoaf, pastor of Nazareth Community Church. Burial will follow at Faith Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church Diminish the Debt; or the Glenn Kiser Hospice House.
