Bertie Mae Hatley

Bertie Mae Hatley, 96, of Oakboro, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 at her home.

Bertie was born March 19, 1927 in North Carolina to the late Marshall A. Hatley and the late Lucy Arabell Smith Hatley. She was also preceded in death by husband, Artice J. Hatley.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 1:45 pm, Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will follow on Thursday at 2:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle officiated by Rev. Ed Lowder. Burial will immediately follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory at 2001 East Main St., Albemarle.

Survivors include daughters, Tamra Hahn (Lionel) of Oakboro, NC, and Tonda Hamilton (Garry) of Oakboro, NC; grandchildren, Andrea Lowder (Brandon), Leslie Wade (Chris), Matthew Hamilton (Tabitha), and Michelle Stroupe (Evan); great-grandchildren, Axel, Brynlee, Kadence, Samuel, Charlie, Josiah, and Jordan; and sister, Betty Davis.

Bertie retired from Belk Department Stores after 28 years of service as a salesclerk in the Ladies Fashion Department. She loved making all types of crafts and sharing them with everyone - especially her grandchildren. Bertie was a wonderful homemaker. She was a lifetime member of Barbee's Grove Baptist Church and truly loved her church serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Bertie and her husband, Artice started the Vacation Bible School at Barbee's Grove and she also loved being a part of the church choir and WMU Women's group.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tillery Compassionate Care or North Carolina Baptist Children's Homes.
