Sally Thompson

OAKBORO - Sally Hatley Thompson, 92, of Oakboro, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Stanly Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 21, 1919, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Marshall Alton Hatley and the late Lucy Arabell Smith Hatley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Leonard Thompson, in 2009; a son, Alton Thompson; brothers James, Fred, Edgar and Marcus Hatley; and sisters Inez Hatley and Lizzie Whitley.

She is survived by her son, Tony Thompson of Oakboro; daughter-in-law Geneva Thompson Austin and husband Jerry of Salisbury; brother Melvin Hatley of Charlotte; sisters Bertie Hatley and Betty Davis, both of Oakboro, and Frances Pope of Charlotte; grandchildren Troy Thompson and wife Wendy, Mark Thompson and wife Angie, Mire Williams and wife Tamara, Shelley Basinger and husband Tony; great-grandchildren Alec Thompson, Julianna Thompson, Shayna Thompson, Brittany Goodrow, Stacie Thompson, Mason Basinger, Tanner Basinger, Braxton Williams and Blake Williams.

Mrs. Thompson was employed by Pickett's Dept. Store and Oakboro Drugstore and was a lifetime member of Barbee's Grove Baptist Church in Oakboro.

Visitation and Service: The family will receive friends Friday, July 27 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times, the family will meet at her home. The funeral service will be Saturday, July 28 at 2 p.m. at Barbee's Grove Baptist Church with a 30 minute state. Rev. Phillip Smith will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials: May be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
