COLUMBUS, GA— MSG (Ret.) Joe Bennett "Opa" Frick, 73, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dennis Lacey officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors and Masonic rites at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.

Mr. Frick was born July 17, 1936 in Lilesville, NC son of the late Roy Frick and Gathey Foreman Frick. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam. He worked as a biotechnician at St. Francis Hospital. He was a member of the Infantry Center Chapel and the Ft. Benning Masonic Lodge #579.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ruth Kupfer Frick of Columbus, GA; daughter, Cindy Bell (Bill) of Columbus, GA; son, Mark Frick (Michael-Ann) of Charleston, SC; sisters, Geraldine Evans of Reidsville, NC, Mildred Bennett of Anderson, SC, Ruby Hall (Monroe) of Sophia, NC and Margie Harvey of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren, Amber Bell, Erin Bell, Adelyn Bell, Mark E. Frick and Megan Frick; and several nieces and nephews.

Opa, as known to many, was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and made many contributions to his community and he knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
