MOUNT PLEASANT - Mr. Daniel A. "Junior" Harwood Jr., 80 of E. Franklin Street, Mount Pleasant, died, Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at the Tucker Hospice House. Funeral service will be 1p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant officiated by Rev. Lewis Whittington and Rev. Eddie Barbee, burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. The Harwood family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday evening at Gordon Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant.

Mr. Harwood was born April 9, 1929, in Cabarrus County son of the late Daniel A. Harwood Sr. and Bertha Burleson Harwood. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a former Mount Pleasant Town Commissioner and Volunteer Fireman. He was a jack of all trades, enjoying woodworking, traveling, and gardening; especially his rose-garden. He was the assistant plant manager for Penn-Carol and Fairmont Hosiery Mill.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Geraldine Moss and Dorothy Sapp and brothers, Carven and D.B. Harwood.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Ross Harwood; sons, Ronald Harwood and wife, Pat, and Danny Harwood and wife, Sharon, all of Mount Pleasant; brother, Glenn "Bud" Harwood of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren, Brian Harwood and wife, Shelly, and Martin Harwood and wife, Nicole; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Devin, Brianna and Maci.

Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant, NC; or Hospice and Palliative Care, Kannapolis, NC
