Edward Leon Frye, Sr.

WINSTON-SALEM - Edward Leon Frye Sr., 93, of Winston-Salem, died Friday, July 1, 2011, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

Mr. Frye was born in Richfield, N.C., on Dec. 22, 1917 to the late William H. Frye and Lula Lisk Frye.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mabel; son Edward Frye Jr.; grandson Christopher L. Frye; three brothers, Robert Frye, Van Frye and Arch Frye; two sisters, Esther Frye Arie and Mamie Frye Trexler.

He is survived by nieces and nephews, Betty Trexler O'Brien, Clarence N. Trexler Jr., Breford Arie, Frances Arie, Mildred Arie, Susan Jones, Cynthia Stewart, Regenia Webb, Reggie Norman, Wayne Myers, Martha Hummell, Becky Adams, Donnie Myers and Bobby Myers.


Mr. Frye was a graduate of Catawba College and a World War II Army veteran in the Medical Unit in California and Hawaii. He retired at the age of 67 from Carolina Narrow Fabric as Accountant. Mr. Frye was the Treasurer for Northwest Baptist Church for many years.

He met his wife, Mabel Myers, when she was at Wingate College and they married in 1950.

Services: Graveside service will be on Monday, July 4th, at 11 a.m. at Forsyth Memorial Park with Rev. Brandon Hudson officiating.

Visitation: The family will receive friends Monday, July 4th, at Salem Funeral Home, 2599 Reynolda Road, from 10-10:45 a.m.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to The Samaritan Ministries Food Kitchen, 1243 Patterson Ave., Winston-Salem; or Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem.
