GOLD HILL - Peggy Eller Ketchie, 80, of Gold Hill, passed away Wednesday Sept. 1, 2010, at The Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks, Salisbury.

Peggy was born July 23, 1930, in Rowan County, daughter of the late Clarence J. and Pearl Miller Eller. She attended Morgan School and Rockwell High School. She had worked for Rowan Industries and the Rowan-Salisbury School System Food Services.

Peggy was also a homemaker and caretaker for her extended family.

Mrs. Ketchie was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, where she was a former Youth Adviser and Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Challengers Missionary Circle, Hazel Trexler Sunday School Class and was also active with Bible School when her health allowed.

Peggy was active in Liberty Volunteer Fire Department. Her love for gardening earned her first place for the best garden in Rowan County for two years. She enjoyed canning, fishing and traveling with her "Sweetheart." She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin White, and a son-in-law, Melvin Harvell.

Peggy is survived by her husband of over 63 years, Ben Ketchie, whom she married on June 27, 1947; daughters Peggy Sue Harvell of Salisbury, Jane Lyerly and husband Larry of Gold Hill and Phyllis White and husband Gary of Salisbury; grandchildren Tommy Harvell and wife Julie, Jeff Harvell and wife Sharon, Wesley Lyerly and wife Crystal, Millie Lyerly, Justin White and wife Yas and Caleb White and wife Ashley; great-grandchildren Cameron Harvell, Mackenzie Harvell, Jada Lyerly, Liyam White and Orion White; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services: The funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthews Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Gary Coble, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Powles Funeral Home Friday, Sept. 3 from 6-8 p.m. and at the residence the remainder of the time.

Memorials: May be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Family Life Center.
