GOLD HILL - Mr. Glenn Van Trexler, Jr., 91, of Gold Hill, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011
, at the NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury.

Mr. Trexler was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Rowan County, son of the late Glenn Van Trexler, Sr. and Beulah Eagle Trexler. He attended Jackson College and Rockwell High School.

Glenn and Hazel were founders and owners of Trexler Trucking, being founded in 1948. He was a life-member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, was a former Church Council Member, former Men's Brotherhood Member and a member of the Good News Sunday School Class.

Mr. Glenn loved farming and spending time with his family. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the New Guinea Campaign. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, Philippines Liberation Ribbon and Victory Medal.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Trexler was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Hazel Boggs Trexler, who died Aug. 28, 2000; three brothers, Thomas S. Trexler, George William Trexler and Paul H. Trexler; and three sisters, Odelia Lyerly, Lucille Wagoner and Mary Elizabeth Misenheimer.

Survivors include two sons, Doug Trexler and wife Judy and Jim Trexler and wife Christina of Gold Hill; grandchildren Scott Van Trexler and wife Misty, David Brian Trexler and wife Ashlinn, Hannah Lily Kirkpatrick and husband Kevin, Sara Christina Frick and husband Nathan and Jenna Caroline Trexler; and great-grandchildren Baleigh, Gage, Lila-Dale, Jaxon, Anaston, Kyrsten, Nolan and Holden.

Service: The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Gary Coble, Pastor. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Family Life Center from to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Family Life Center, 9275 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.
