SPENCER - Bobby Lee Morgan, 68, of Spencer, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born Feb. 14, 1941, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Herman Carl Morgan and Beulah Morgan Beacham. He was educated in Salisbury schools and graduated from Boyden High School in 1959, where he was a star basketball player.

Mr. Morgan served in the United State Army from 1959-1962 in Fort Story, Va., and was on the traveling baseball team, traveling throughout Southeast United States.

He retired from Briggs-Shaffner as plant manager in Salisbury in 2005 after 11 years of service. He was also a former special deputy with the Rowan County Sheriff's Department.

A member of Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church, he served as chairman of the Trustees Council and a member of the Administrative Board.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Ray Morgan, in 1979; and a sister, Shirley Morgan Crabtree, in 1987.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Susan Tutterow Morgan, whom he married Dec. 30, 1962; a daughter, Kim Morgan Walton and husband Alan Scott Walton of Salisbury; grandson Brandon Scott Walton; and a granddaughter, Taylor Nicole Walton.

Visitation: The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13 at Summersett Funeral Home in Salisbury.

Service: A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. at Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Annalee Allen, Rev. Dr. Rick Cockerham and Rev. Dr. Chris Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery with military honors by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, or Milford Hills United Methodist Church.
