Sunday, May 7, 2006 — J.V. Clinton Shaver, 86, of 6060 Farrior Dr., Clemmons, formerly of Albemarle and Denton, died at 4:40 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2006, in Hospice of Forsyth County.

Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.

His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday with a 30-minute state in Anderson Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Ronald Honeycutt, Dr. Steve Chipps and Dr. Ronnie Chaney will officiate. Burial will be in Anderson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Albemarle.

Born Feb. 22, 1920, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late William Travis and Ola Crowell Shaver.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II.

Mr. Shaver was retired from Estees Express Lines as a driver and he had been a terminal manager for Helms Motor Express.

He was a member of Anderson Grove Baptist Church, where he had been deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member and had worked with the NC Baptist Men’s Lay Witness Foundation. He was a former member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Denton.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda Lee Freeman Shaver, wife of 48 years who died in 1986. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Clara Mae Hogan Shaver, his wife of 17 years who died in 2003. Also preceding him in death were grandsons Lee Tanner Shaver and Chad Brandon Shaver.

He is survived by a son, Jerry Clinton Shaver and wife, Lou, of Albemarle; two daughters, Rita Shaver Tucker and husband Steve of Clemmons and Lois Shaver Riggins and husband Gerald of Anderson, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Phyllis H. Doby and husband James of Denton; a stepson, Butch Hogan and wife Debbie of Asheboro; two sisters, Lucille Rummage and Margie Gardner, both of Albemarle; four half sisters, Claudene Hopkins, Annie Scott and Ruby Furr, all of Albemarle, and Betty Hardin of Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren, Brian Riggins, Rick Riggins, Kelly Shaver, Kent Shaver, Josh Tucker and Joseph Tucker; 10 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will meet at the home of son Jerry Shaver, 35939 Taxidermist Road, Albemarle, NC, and grandson Kent Shaver, 229 Anderson Grove Road, Albemarle, NC.

Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem; or Anderson Grove Baptist Church.

Arrangements are by Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.
