Alene Shaver Hatley

Alene Shaver Hatley, 91, of Landis went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from her home with her family by her side, after a brief illness.

Her family will receive friends at the Jackson Park UMC Family Life Center from 1:00 to 2:30 PM Sunday, September 17 at other times the family will be at her residence. Her funeral will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday in the church sanctuary with Rev. Doug Hardin and Rev. Greg Gordon officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Alene was born January 28, 1926 in Stanly County, the daughter of the late C.B. and Minnie Burrage Shaver. In addition to her parents, Alene was preceded in death by her brother, Rev. Bewey M. Shaver and her husband, Paul A. Hatley. She was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Landis High School. She was a member of Jackson Park UMC since 1950. Alene worked for Kannapolis City Schools as a cook in the cafeteria. She enjoyed sharing produce from her vegetable garden, watching Duke basketball games and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandson. Alene was a loving and devote mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed.

Alene is survived by her daughters; Becky Hendricks (Ken), Pat Austin (Rick) and Lori Hatley, all of Kannapolis, her grandchildren; Adam Hendricks (Kelly), Kaitlin Hendricks, Tricia Jenkins (Matthew), Tara Austin and fiancĂ©, Matt Boswell and Grant Hendricks, great-grandson, Brayden Glosson and her “Puppy” Riley.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Rowan County or to Jackson Park UMC Children and Youth Ministries.
