William Edward Miller

CHINA GROVE - William Edward Miller, 92, of 1425 South Main St., died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Morningside Assisted Living, Concord.

Born Sept. 14, 1916, in Rowan County, he was son of the late Backman Henry and Mamie Smith Miller. He attended Farm Life School and graduated from China Grove High School.

Mr. Miller was Chief Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy from 1935-1958, serving in World War II and Korean Conflict. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a Police Officer at the University of California, San Diego campus for 21 years.

A longtime member of Lutheran Chapel Church, he was a member of the Fleet Reserve and received full accreditation from the police academy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Taylor Miller, in 1975 and second wife, Brodus Eudy Kimball Miller, in 2004.

Survivors include daughters Lynne Miller of Landis, Shirley Pullman (George) of Arden, Barbara Flynne (Dick) of Concord; stepson Charles Arthur Kimball of Salisbury; stepdaughter Joleen Propst (Harry) of Durham; sister Sara Rose Simon of Tuscon, Ariz.; grandchildren Bill Gillitzer, Niccole Beavers, Erin and Sean Flynne; and great-grandchild Cameron Rachael Beavers.

Service: 11 a.m. Saturday Lutheran Chapel Church conducted by Rev. William Connelly, pastor. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove.
