Notes for Ruby Imogene “Jean” Herrin
Jean Herrin Wooldridge

Jean Herrin Wooldridge, 92, Hot Springs, Aransas died Thursday, November 10, 2016 at her residence, Quapaw Care and Memory Unit.

Jean was born April 24, 1924, the daughter of Travis and Pearl Herrin, of Bismarck, Arkansas. She was the last of her 9 siblings to join her parents in their heavenly home.

The Herrin children were unique in that all 10 remained in very close proximity to their parents, even after they had married and had many, many children. Sunday afternoons were always spent with Papa and Big Momma. Kids were all over the fields surrounding their home, playing or getting into trouble. There were always cat-head bisquits hidden in the pie safe.

Jean worked as a soda jerk across the street from the Army/Navy Hospital in Hot Springs, when she met O.C. Wooldridge, a good looking soldier from Cave City, Arkansas who was stationed there. They were married on March 8, 1945, and lived in Hot Springs until he was recalled to service during the Korean conflict. After the war, Jean and “Woody” never strayed too far from her home. They lived in far too many homes to count, but included were places in Hot Springs, Bismarck, Arkadelphia, Malvern, and then back to Hot Springs, where their roots were finally firmly planted.

Hot Springs, with its beautiful lakes and entertainment provided a great escape from the workplace she enjoyed so much. Having previously owned and managed cosmetology schools, she ended her “career” at ABC Barber School, where she worked for Charles Kirkpatrick, a long time friend of the family. She loved traveling, but not the flying. After a long plane ride to Germany, her future trips to anywhere remote meant a long ride in a car. And she was always ready to go.

Jean is survived by two sons, Michael and Ann of Little Rock, and Danny and Claudia of Springdale.

Grandchildren are David and wife Dawn of Hot Springs; Brian and wife Hollie of Brentwood, Tennessee; Matt and wife Jo Anne of Conway; Katie and husband Tim Brown of Van Buren; and Carrie and husband Aaron Ennis of Springdale.

Great grandchildren are Bailey and Blake Wooldridge, Oliver and Mary Claire Wooldridge, Parker and Peyton Brown and Jacob and Courtney Ennis.

Jean is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, who died on December 14, 2005 and is buried at Oak Bower Cemetery in Bismarck, Arkansas, where her internment will be conducted by Caruth-Hale Funeral Home as a private service.

A reception and celebration of life honoring Jean will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, with a memorial service beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Caruth- Hale Funeral Home.

Thank you for the wonderful care given goes to Quapaw, especially Gwen and Dana. Also to Gentiva workers, Teddy Frye and Vee Anderson.

“Thank you Lord for the time spent with family and friends. I did not remember them, but they remembered me.”
