John Thomas "Tommy" Kirk
John Thomas "Tommy" Kirk, 63. passed away on April 15, 2011. Tommy was born March 16, 1948, in Boone, N.C., where he attended and was in the first graduating class of Watauga High School. He continued his education at Appalachian State University and obtained a Masters Degree in industrial arts.
Tommy was a master craftsman of woodworking, leather tooling and jewelry design. One of his fondest memories was the years he spent as sheriff at Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock. He was an avid reader and his thirst for knowledge was amazing.
The last two years, Tommy lived in Wilmington, N.C. and worked with the Cape Fear River Watch and tended the dock at Greenfield Lake.
His father, John Zeb Kirk Jr,. and brother Steven Paul Kirk, of Boone precede Tommy in death.
His mother, Elaine Shaw Williams; sisters, Sandra Kirk and Lori Kirk Key and her husband, Dana; nephews; Steven and Patrick Walker, Ben and John Robertson; and niece, Katie Walker, survive him.
He will be missed more than he will ever know and we loved him to the moon and back.
