Dr. Richard Brandon Wright, Jr.

Dr. Richard Brandon Wright, Jr. passed away January 8, 2002. He was born June 6, 1916 in Salisbury.

He was a graduate of Boyden High School, graduated with a B.S. Degree from Davidson College in 1938 and studied medicine at Tulane University Medical School, New Orleans, Louisiana, graduating in 1942, with his M.D. Degree. He served his internship at the City Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. During WW II, he served from 1943 to 1946 with the U.S. Army Air Force as a Major, Medical Corps, Group Surgeon with the 337th A.S.G. in the Pacific Theater.

Beginning in 1946, Dr. Wright practiced General Family Practice and Anesthesiology in Salisbury, NC. He served as Chief of Staff at Rowan Memorial Hospital and as Rowan County Coroner from 1950-1962. In 1973, he was named to the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. He was a Fellow of the American College of Anesthesiologists and held membership in the American Society of Anesthesiologists; American Academy of General Practice; Southern medical Society; North Carolina State Medical Society, North Carolina State Academy of General Practice of which he was Vice President 1956; and Rowan-Davie County Academy of General Practice, of which he was President in 1961. He was a member of the Advisory Committee, National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Awards.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Bradley Wright who died 10/28/83.

He is survived by his son Richard ""Dick"" Brandon Wright, III, Raleigh; daughters Sandra Wright Bridgers of Florence, SC, Susan Wright Taylor of Richmond, VA, Heather Wright of Chicago, IL., four grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, at Summersett Memorial Chapel with Dr. Randal V. Kirby, Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church. Burial US National Cemetery, Government Road Location. The family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Summersett Funeral Home.
